Skips are clearly mattress magnets. I've driven past this skip for about 3 weeks. But not to be disappointed, sure enough a skip migrated to its natural habitat, the builders skip.

some women spend money on anything
Rebecca commented on 03.05.03
Does that explain Michael Jackson?

The is a quote I've seen which is consistent with this theory... some woman saying one ought to spend money on shoes and beds because we'll spend most of our lives in one or the other. The Mattress Shoe Theory?
Rebecca commented on 03.01.03
Well, it's as plausible as any other explanation I've heard. The Mattress Theory.

Maybe you've hit on something, personality could be a product of nature, nurture and bad/good mattress. You get a bad mattress you turn out bad. It's a theory not a very good one granted.

What is he, really?? I wonder if he has a bad mattress.

you got Michael Jackson too and he's B**

Hey, we got bad bases, bad hair, bad blood, bad air, bad kitties...if it's bad, we got it! We're baaaad to the bone.
Salinger commented on 02.28.03
Rebecca, also I know Americans like to think there is nothing bad in their country but i just can't believe there isn't a single bad base in the USA.

Rebecca, the word dumpster to a Brit conjures images of a large heavy duty construction-type vehicle from which amounts of things are dumped, soil or gravel for example. But you're right. skip is a terrible word for the large yellow item in the photograph. particularly when you consider 'skip' as a verb: to jump repeatedly over circling rope, or, to omit... nevertheless, such objects definitely have strange magnetic power on mattresses in this country.

It's interesting how we use the language differently. "Skip" sounds too light and carefree for that item. I've always thought that our word, "dumpster," sounds like the item itself will be doing the dumping, though. We don't have "bad bases" here, either - I've learned something. Streetmattresses are contributing to international understanding!

Sorry ChristineL,
that should have read Skips are mattress magnets. :-)

Dear ChristineL, to answer your questions.
1. A skip is the big yellow thing in the picture, they are used to hold builders rubble, etc.
2. The water slide is a load of plastic sectional tubes joine together to guide the rubbish into the builders skip.
3. Skips in this country seem to be skip magnets.
regards
Kevin

Two questions: 1) What is a skip? 2) Why does that water slide lead to the dumpster?
