yes I know its not a 'fern' but 'mahonia gully' doesn't sound as snappy (and I can't spell mahonia)!

just don't lose your capital sense. In my idea it is mahogony, and it is forbidden in Europe

Now a notice has come through our door informing us that our gully will be cleansed next week.

SS, since when do you believe in devils?
Smart Set commented on 07.01.05
Talk of the devil, ND...I took a matt pic yesterday and there's a "Gully Cleansing" in it.
Nancy Dumpling commented on 06.24.05
Ok, so maybe that's not the correct spelling....!!! FOD...really. How rude.

Wasn't he the mayor of NYC?

First the "back passage"...now this! I'm seeing all sorts of stuff in the picture now, albeit a little crooked.
psychobabble commented on 06.23.05
go steady ND, I think you should perhaps look up the slang definition of 'cootch'...
Nancy Dumpling commented on 06.23.05
Sorry SS - thought was your matt - hence asking you!!! A little "back passge" or alley at the back of your house is referred to as a "gulley" in South Wales. I always thought that odd when I lived in Cardiff. The other phrase I found odd (but liked) was to "cutch" or "cootch" (not sure how you spell it!) which means to snuggle up or cuddle! Also, I can't believe they put a sign out when they clean the roads in Acton! How posh!
Smart Set commented on 06.23.05
I've never heard it used to describe an alley or passageway, ND, but maybe pb has Welsh roots. You see signs here saying "Gully Cleansing in Progress", but that's the roadside gutter. pb is probably just referring to the children's cartoon film "Fern Gully".
Nancy Dumpling commented on 06.23.05
I thought gully in this context was only used in Wales...is it an Acton thing too SS?
