City mattress - 09.24.02
submitter: Salinger
location:City of London, just off Minories by Portsoken Gardens
A few months ago, I spotted my first City mattress, a high quality mattress on Aldgate High Street, opposite St. Botolphs church and outside Kelly's. Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera to hand and by the time I returned with one, the mattress had moved on. This time, the mattress didn't get away.

It looks like as these mattresses are queuing for a quick lunch somewhere before trotting off to an afternoon business meeting

As you can see from the queue, an enterprising mattentrepreneur is having considerable success catering for the recent influx of work-hard, play-hard young City mattresses. Until recently, demand for mattresses in the City had been at an all time low. But recently they have been drafted in as a desperate measure- trying to brake the fall of once mighty stocks and shares. Mattress confidence is high "Even if we fail in this task, we still have the fall back of working on the streets- preventing City executives from jumping to their deaths" said one. So they have no worries about disposing of their high incomes by socializing. After punishingly long hours on the trading floor, these go-getters restore their work/life balance by lounging around this souk -meets-zen style bar in the City. It has caught on to such an extent, that these normally notoriously difficult consumers have even resorted to queuing for floorspace. Futons are flying in from Japan, complete with digital cameras to record this new social movement. Unfortunately, the real trend setting mattresses have already moved on elsewhere…
