"Hypnagogic": of, relating to, or occurring in the state of intermediate consciousness preceding sleep: hypnagogic hallucinations. "hypnopompic": of or relating to the partially conscious state that precedes complete awakening from sleep. But half-asleep and half-awake are fine. "drowsy" means falling asleep, too. |

| Smart Set commented on 04.02.05 | | The two meanings are expressed by exactly the same phrase ("sleep with"), so we have to rely on the context to give us clues as to the intended meaning, or rephrase to avoid ambiguity/embarrassment. It's a pity, really, that "sleep with" as a euphemism for having sex has made it difficult to use the phrase to mean "share a bed with". |

How do you make the difference in English between "sleeping with" (like having sex) and "sleeping with" (like in one bed without any fysical contact)? in Dutch we say "ik slaap met Julie" (sexthing) and "ik slaap bij Julie" (with 2 in 1 bed) |
