trainspotting - 03.28.04
submitter: wim rutten
location:Visé-Wezet,Belgium
It now is Visé in the French-speaking part of the country, but before 1977 it was known as Wezet, in the Flemish-speaking part of the country. The mat was stopped by the red light on the railroad, otherwise it would have reached the border. Holland is only 2 kilometers down the road.

I still think the same about belgium, even after discussing last week with people who want to split up italy in new autonomous states with thier own income taxes and their own problems

I thnink that has something to do with the 'several hats'. And I also think that might be the problem, there's an end to the amount of hats one can wear

and to be clear, I also like Dadaism, otherwise I wouldn't post on this site, don't you think. But as far as I can remember not everyone had the same kind of opinions. Many did not know the meaning of the word nor the context of the idea

I see that my last comment has not come through so here's another go: I understand Wim that the thing about living together without a common background may proove to be challenging and exciting, but as far as I have gathered from my local press Mr. Verhofstadt has been put into a situation where the country is not able to be controlled any more. Nobody dares to make descisions since brussels was not given a federal independance. Reading the material from here the situation seems to be getting out of hand. As you know I used to work in Belgium and I enjoyed myself enormously. But what is it like now?

I see Belgium as a necessity, from my point of view there is a minority on both sides of the languagebarrier that wants several free federated states, but as long as we are federal, we remain Belgian, with the complex quality of finding solutions and win-win situations whenever things get complicated, after all most of us are very surrealistic in their way of thinking, most of us love dadaism, most of us speak several languages, we are a testmarket for political solutions with 3 official languages and a lot of governments, federal, regional, linguistic, most of our adninistrators with several hats at the same time, most of us open for a change. It would be a pitty if the construction would stop, because as a construction it never ends, it is part of humanity

I've been diving around and the funny thing is that when i look at some of the past entries without comments that they were invariably quite good pics. Has this something to do with our vanity or is it pure coincidence?

Wim, there was a recent article in 'The Volkskrant, which you can read online, wherein certain learned people postulated the idea that Belgium will cease to be within a hundred years due to the fact of your ongoing herresy dispute. I know from the time that I worked there that it's a worrying problem. Do you also see the problems are is it a dutch view?

It has some fine art I believe....

wim commented on 07.25.05
why thank you Nancy, I've allways wanted to go by train to Nancy

Taking FOD's principle of no de milo needlessly going uncommented upon, I also adopt this matt from Wim. I like it because it has a bit of "guts spillage" and a train in the background.
