On my way to work today - 01.12.08
submitter: Susan Sermoneta
location:NYC - Eighth Avenue in the 20's (Chelsea)
a mattress, on a frame, with lots of shadows of people (including me) and things (including a traffic light) and real people crossing the street and lurking in the background. And if you also want beer in the photo, it's there.

a shame she stopped, 100% mdM submissions

MdM at first submission! But please, susan, continue, put me in the chain of digital story telling, I agree on Lee FRiedlander and prefer his black and whites

Looking forward to more cool nyc matts from you, other SS. Our erstwhile contributors from there seem to have given up, so you're covering the entire city.

I promise from now on I'll look for mattresses on the streets....yep, digital storytelling is a link in the chain. And Emily & Rob & baby you are welcome here whenever you make it to nyc....and Lee Friedlander is one of my favorite photographers....a show coming up this month at the Met - photographs taken in Olmsted parks.

the city that never sleeps, or does it?

Smart Set commented on 01.13.08
How gratifying that my hunch proved correct. rk, it's interesting how you've apparently replaced the word "baby" with "(emily and me)", because that's essentially what the baby will be, isn't it? Cosmic, man.

i'm sure no coincidence that emily fired off an email to Susan today. i think SM was mentioned somewhere in her note.

sorry Susan missing word... 'baby' due end of april.

helloo Susan. Well a fine fine first submission. very lee friedlander-ish. my first was also a d Milo. That was over 1600 submissions ago. it has been a a few years. When are you coming back out to the west coast? better yet when are we coming to nyc? probably not until after our (emily and me) is born. please keep submitting. i waited until over a year after my first before i really caught the bug. ps - SS once again your sluething proved fruitful

Smart Set commented on 01.12.08
Wait, I have found a possible link to SM's own Robert Kershaw: digital storytelling, Emily, and Ukiah, CA. Am I right?

Susan, welcome to streetmattress. I see you have a very impressive body of work on Flickr: over 14,500 photos (but only one with a mattress in - this one) and I wonder what prompted you to submit this to SM. I know NYC is full of streetmattresses, so please send us lots more.
