submitter: robert kershaw

The Oakland Oaks were a minor league baseball team which played in the Pacific Coast League from 1903 until 1955. In 1916, a struggling Oaks team made history by breaking the professional baseball color line when Jimmy Claxton pitched a double-header on May 28th, 1916. He was introduced to the team as an American Indian, but once the team discovered he was both Native American and African American, he was dropped from the team.

the board i am assuming was part of a bigger ad. not sure what the big green letters are about as the word is cut off, but it says Oaks on his baseball cap.

Is it the poster that is the connection with the Oakland Oaks? What does it say?
