As we have no rules, it really does not matter, but yes, I would prefer to see more MdM's, after all, some pictures are really outstanding good one way or the other. Perhaps we should push Adam a bit, or Noonan if they are the twin masters, to consider the milobility of pictures with a bit more of an artistic mind, but then perhaps they do right now

thanks Jaak but this i already do.(if i have the opportunity) the assumption being that i'm trying to get a MdM. I'm not. i just select what i think is the best picture of the matt and its location. I'm really just curious as to what others think is MdM-worthy. It's mostly subjective, anyway.

rk try to make same pics in a different angle, pics view change when you move around. While moving you'll see a different background ... don't give up.Then you can submit the best one.

Chaf, maybe you should ask Adam to tell us what he's looking for in a pic in order to confer deMilohood upon it. I think you're right, there is no hard-and-fast rule or set of criteria, and that it's just what takes A's fancy at any given moment, so it will never be consistent, but I think that originality counts, as does humour (also in the caption) and just evidence of something extra having gone into the shot, be it timing, thought, preparation, manipulation... Or it's just about being in the right place at the right time. Also , a lot of the early de Milos were new ideas at the time and got the award for that reason, so a repetition now will not get one.

If there's no one there to jump you either do the jump yourself or clone in a jumper from another pic.

Chaf commented on 03.15.07
Only 7 jumping MdM's out of 664 total. After scanning the full category I believe there is no rhyme or reason to MdM selection. Yes there are some that are unique without question, but the majority are no different than any other shot within a suitable category. It's my belief that some of us get them and some of us don't.

okay iCandy can be nice to look at initially but the 'flavour' goes away pretty quickly. and what if there is no one there to jump?

Smart Set commented on 03.15.07
Hey, don't knock iCandy! Totally agree with you, rk. Obviously, then, all that narrative stuff *plus* someone jumping has got to be the way forward...

robert k commented on 03.15.07
but that can be a bit contrived no? i think what makes an MdM for me as much as anything is a unique setting that happens to have a matt in it, or a unique matt in a mundane setting. both suggest a story. and istn't that why matts on the side of the road are interesting? i guess that's it as with any good art a MdM for me has has to offer narrative. to 'pretty' too aesthetically motivated then it's just eye candy.

Smart Set commented on 03.14.07
I think somebody jumping in the pic helps.

Chaf commented on 03.14.07
Almost 400 for me and no MdM yet. When somedoby figures out the formula let me know.

just my luck the wall has been repainted. the white patches are gone. but no more matt. continue the serach for the elusive MdM

Smart Set commented on 03.13.07
It's a good pic and no mistake, but I do find the light patches on the wall less than aesthetic, and they detract from the "otherwise-perfectness". I prefer "ford from the front" as a de Milo candidate, but it's all subjective, innit? It's your misfortune, rk, to be on the scene when MdMs are in such short supply, otherwise you'd have dozens.

blue muse had a nice flow off the tongue. the colour blue surrounded by earthier tones also seems to me like an inspiration. a patch of sky against a ominous brick wall. fave is short for favourite. i though this might be MdM-worthy, but i guess i am lost these days on what qualifies for such a distinction. my aesthetic is just not the same as the selection committee's

I am lost in muse and fave, please explain, RK
