That's Oakland for you. Glad to hear you're looking out.

Why Rebecca? Because the trains did not stop? I like Robert's description :" railway garage", an unknown perception in Belgium

i know the old Oakland railway station. it is a few blocks from where i live. see #14250. it is the building up in the right. i'm pretty sure this building was an old railway garage. now it is used as a dockside warehouse

Isn't that the Oakland train station? I've been there once - it surprised me.

SS, I beg to differ. As one of the FFFs you might have forgotten what it is like to be a mere triple D (double digit desperado). When you're still a hungry young gun, it's easier work the system than when you are a long-standing pillar of the establishment like you.

I think it is now as close to impossible as makes no difference.

That is some challenge, Dan. I think it should be possible. I might give it a go... I love this picture by the way. Arresting composition.

I find the number amazing : 3456, and the missing "STOP"-sign, only in words, so it never snows in oakland CA

Check out matt #1144 for the origin of the challenge that I've failed to meet in nearly four years.

i like the idea dvd-d. thanks for the feednack ss. haven't found out what the building is yet. maybe old railroad station? Pacific Gas and Electric? something to do with the container docks?

I guess it is too late to try to match a SM submission with an engine number. Maybe Robert whats to take a stab at matching an address??

Many interesting things about this picture. The first is that giant Meccano horse striding across the landscape, the second is that Union Pacific train, cos I used to watch a B/W TV prog called UP when I was very young, third, the cool number of the train, and fourth, that striking building. What a pic!
