please, no sexist comments, my blue is overwhelming
Sleepeasy commented on 01.16.07
How very gay..
Jaak Graaf van Stokkem commented on 01.15.07
You may kiss your matt now ..
Smart Set commented on 01.15.07
I now pronounce you matt and wife.
wim commented on 01.15.07
SE, I do
Sleepeasy commented on 01.14.07
By the way, Wim, did you have a serious glass question for me?
Sleepeasy commented on 01.14.07
Guess what: in broad daylight, at a very oblique angle (i.e. less than 45 degrees) I can see the numbers, in the bottom left hand corner of each comment box. It's virtually the same colour as the beige background, which is why I never spotted it before. Not a Mac issue, just a matter of better light.
commented on 01.13.07
And then there were none........................
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Hey rk, hang on, I'll join you. I'll just grab my coat, hat & credit card. See you at the bar.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Mac, Firefox, me. That'll be it.
robert k commented on 01.13.07
actually top of the late afternoon. about to head for a pint. goodnight all.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Wim, there is no yellow lining on my 'latest comments' page. I feel I'm missing something. Ah well. It will all look different in the morning.
robert k commented on 01.13.07
all i have is the Choose a Noteable Category pull down menu. i'm on a Mac using Firefow browser wonder if that has nything to do with it
wim commented on 01.13.07
I see things big at the moment, more than a dream
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Night, Smart. Night, Wim. Sleep slow & easy. Top o' the mornin' to ye, rk!
robert k commented on 01.13.07
i'm contemplating an exhibit of sorts for a community art collective known as Oaklandish. but must get this book done.
wim commented on 01.13.07
and it is not on the picture itself, but in the lower corner of the yellow lining, bottom left in fade colors
wim commented on 01.13.07
Robert, not on this page, but on the page "latest comments"
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
rk, do you have a mac?
wim commented on 01.13.07
something Art could use in his line of work Robert; SM is a platform of artistic expression
robert k commented on 01.13.07
i don't see the total number of comments either. northing shows up on the lower left.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
I think I will go too. I feel a song coming on. Goodnight, Sleepeasy. Goodnight, wim. Goodnight, Robert. Goodnight!
wim commented on 01.13.07
nope, but this glass is special, it is machinecarved, low-iron, glued and broken; if you know SS, you can ask him my email adress, if not you can gues it as your dutch is rather expert-like
robert k commented on 01.13.07
i'm certainly not proud that i live in an area that offers 20 matts per week.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
phrase, not saying.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
But yes, do ask me a question and I will give you the most serious answer I can come up with. Tomorrow. For now I think I may go up the wooden hills to Bedfordshire, to coin a very twee English saying
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
It will be interesting when you catch me up.
robert k commented on 01.13.07
workshop in digital storytelling. take scanned or digital photos, objects, artwork... plus a recorded script and using video editing software like final cut or premiere we help people make their own personal films. life stories really. we like to say we're helping people make tv to kill tv.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Wim, are you implying I'm not serious in the night?
wim commented on 01.13.07
SE, go to "comments" and look at the left bottom of the picture
wim commented on 01.13.07
impossibel to get 20 matts a week in Belgium
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Where can you see the total number of comments? I can only see the number of comments for this particular matt (SUCH a nict matt is it too)
wim commented on 01.13.07
beat you to it SS, SE I have a serious question about glass, can I formulate it on this picture and get a serious answer tomorrow?
robert k commented on 01.13.07
i've got 600 or so in the system (about 150 submitted but in the backlog) and another 100 or so still to submit. that makes 700. i probably get 20 matts per week, so in about 15 more weeks i'll be near 1000. unless i'm stuck in places like ubc campus where matts are scarce.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Oops, you got it, wim.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
I like the sound of the process of your artwork Wim. I make mosaics and use
shards of cut or broken Venetian glass. I invert the work before grouting and the mirror image that then appears always ends up surprising me. I like working with glass even though I do invariably end up with bleeding fingertips.
wim commented on 01.13.07
let robert earn it
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
I'm trying again!
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
I'm going for it....
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Let me see. Yes, there's a cake in my cup, too! Good night, wim.
wim commented on 01.13.07
we are too close to #35000 to sleep now
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
I like to get blotto at least once an hour on snakebites.
wim commented on 01.13.07
folks over the water and far over the water, I'll have to leave you, nice chatting, read you soon, good night and good day
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
SS do you have any cupcakes left?
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
I'm a sucker for a grappa
wim commented on 01.13.07
a workshop in what RK? computer related?
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
I hate it when that happens. Never mind.
wim commented on 01.13.07
my favorite digestives are "sambucca" and "averna amaro"
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
That site looks good, RK; I will have a closer look at it tomorrow. I imagine the book is not about digital story telling?
robert k commented on 01.13.07
must have gotten swept away by the arctic airstream (or the increased customs security). i'll take a rain check.
wim commented on 01.13.07
so you could take part in what I do, RK, I paint starting with a number, digitalise the painting, put it in negative, have it printed on a transparant support, expose it together with a found object, there is a cd with musical impressions related to the painting and poems in acrosticons or pages in acrostric beginnings with each painting, it will end in a book and the title probably is "a few maumau hm oekebah"
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Robert, when do you expect to reach 1000 matts?
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
LOL, as they say, rk. Here you go. It's a plain one.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
How about undunked? A few remain.
robert k commented on 01.13.07
a digestive sounds just about right. plain or with chocolate frosting? toss one over regardless.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Thanks but no thanks SS, I hate dunked biscuits, especially from anyone else's cup.
robert k commented on 01.13.07
both but neither at a university level. i teach digital storytelling (see storycenter dot org) and i'm in the last stages of writing a book. my wife happens to be teaching a workshop this weekend so i came up for the change of scenery and to be back to my canadian homeland for a few days. the west oakland matts will just have to wait until next week. i needed a break or maybe i should say west oakland needed a break from me.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
May I come?
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
What music?
wim commented on 01.13.07
SE, I am planning an exibition in may, poetry, music and painting
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
I would share my digestives with you guys.
wim commented on 01.13.07
research and writing Robert, sounds familiar to me, have to do it half of my time
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Warm winter's night.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
RK what do you study? Or do you teach?
wim commented on 01.13.07
I am not following the comments numbers, but yes SE, they stop collecting when teher is a fault in the computer; one of the side efffects of the sysytem is people trying to throw their garbage in someone elses bin, hence bins with padlocks in appartment buildings
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Get the hell outta there, rk! The mattresses of West Oakland are calling you.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Ah, Wim, one can always tell. Do you publish it anywhere? Is there anything you would share with us on this cold winter's night?
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Darn it.
robert k commented on 01.13.07
no matts yet, but then i'm stuck on the University of British Columbia campus. and a very clean campus it is.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Radiant? Suit you, sir!
wim commented on 01.13.07
hi Robert, the Tönissteiner is a fruit drink, the cat came for meat, she does not like oranges, SE how did you find out I write poetry
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
SE, I very much doubt it. We are all human.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
staggering. if there's a fault with the computer, do they stop collecting waste?
robert k commented on 01.13.07
howdy. vancouver is colder and snowier than normal, but clear and sunny. the mountains are radiant.
wim commented on 01.13.07
yes, it is a computerchip fixed to the bin; it registrates the weight and the number of pick-uos; if your amount of credit is too low, the system in the truck refuses the bin, just like a protoncard; a bankcard with a small amount of electronic money on it, unlike a creditcard
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Hi Robert K, What's Vancouver like? Would it be worth a visit? I'm trying to get away from England for a bit and wondering where to go. I want the weather to be good and I want there to be plenty of street matts.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Hi, rk. How's Vancouver? Soon we will be at comment #35000. Who will be the lucky winner?
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
SS you lied! Is there no-one trustworthy left in this world?
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Wim, you're a poet and you didn't know it
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Actually I made it up for comic effect. As an Englishman I have perfected the dunker's art.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
how do you mean chipped? Do you mean, as in a chip card? (For the non dutch speakers, that's a kind of top-up debit card that's used instead of cash, like an oyster card you can use in most shops)
robert k commented on 01.13.07
i'm in vancouver 'listening' in on this conversation. Now i see how pb garnered so many comments on masonic. unfortunatley i can only participate periodically as i'm trying to get some research and writing done. btw wim what is tönissteiner? does your cat like it or lick it?
wim commented on 01.13.07
your tea is too heavy or you dunk too deep
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
never knowingly
wim commented on 01.13.07
if you bring the stuff to a "containerpark" some things are free, some you have to pay for; me being independent, I am not allowed to put my paper on the street, nor to use the "containerpark", but as I am not chipped yet, no-one bothers
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
wim, this is fascinating. Do go on.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
nimby,se!
wim commented on 01.13.07
it is not always free, in some places you have to buy a "sticker", the gft is payed on a yearly basis, the grey ones are chipped and get wheighted, as soon as your supposed amount of kilo's is in sight, you have to pay again in advance, papert and glass are free
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Got me tea now. Milk, three sugars and a digestive biscuit. It fell in during dunking.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Throwing stuff out used to be real simple. But I prefer this. Do you pay tax on each bag o' rubbish too?
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
There you have it: the difference between the Belgians and the Dutch. We say tomato, they say tomato.
wim commented on 01.13.07
correct SE, only thing we don't have black bins, we have grey ones for household trash, blue bags for pmd, green bins for gft (kitchen and green)and grean containers for batteries, paper is once a month and glass goes in containers on fixed places in gthe villages, with a difference for white glass, brown and green
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Have you heard "Coarse Dirt" by "Rude Trash"? Great song!
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Not that it's free: they'll come and collect it from your own back yard but you have to bring your credit card
wim commented on 01.13.07
"grof vuil" is "rude trash", things that don't fit in bins and have to be collected in an other way
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
O coarse. Thank you.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
So did I. Grof vuil means any large rubbish. The dustbinmen collect the black rubbish bins. Anything larger (like mattresses) and you call grofvuil and they come and collect it. Literally it means course dirt.
wim commented on 01.13.07
correct SE, not me, I have about 300m², but art's office and house does not have a shred of garden or land; as for the green, he has a terrace on level 3, where he wants imitation grass, and when he does, I buy them a plastic rabbit
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Well, I thought it was hilarious. Grofvuil. What it mean, please?
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
BTW my feet aren't tingling but my sides have split... Wim, 100% use of the 50m2, does that mean you have no garden at all, not even a little strip of green?
wim commented on 01.13.07
sorry, I was outside, one of our outdoor cats beggedd for food right now and I had to open my tönissteiner; the last one, tomorrow we have to go shopping
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
He's just released an album of Dowland songs.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Blackbird is wonderful. My mother wants me to sing it at her funeral. Not that that's happening any time soon, touch wood.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
wim, you failed to get my pun.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Which one? I only know one, the song of the white turtles - or was it blue?
Kettle's boiled.
wim commented on 01.13.07
my favourite is "blackbird'
wim commented on 01.13.07
a trapezium with no parallel lines
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
although they prefer What shall we do with the drunken sailor.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
I don't like that Sting album.
wim commented on 01.13.07
12 meters is something like 40 feet, Art's houses rooftop is more or less that height above the lowest level
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
I can't sing either but I pretend I can and so far no-one's noticed. I always sing a John Dowland song to my eldest son, I Saw My Lady Weep, and Summertime to the younger.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Sounds like a trapezium.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Enjoying your Oranjeboom?
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
one cur too few
wim commented on 01.13.07
perhaps I misnamed the form, but the ground where we had to build is not rectangular and the four sides have different lenghts, as it measures only 5Om², and 3 neighbours we had no choice, ground zero as concerns uncovered ground, 100%used
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Cough to you too.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
12 metres? What's that in feet? Why, tingling, of course!
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
cough?
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Too late for tea? Is there a curfew?
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
We had some scaffolding up by our house too recently and every time I climbed up the ladder to the top, which must have been about 12 metres high, the soles of my feet started tingling. It's a thing that always happens when I go high up; mild vertigo, I think. I'm impressed with anyone who can work at such heights.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Guess what. I can't hum either.
wim commented on 01.13.07
too late for tea, no kettle, we have one of those push things that grinds the coffee, flows water over it and spits a cake of dry coffee; I am in for an orangejuice now, just don't leave
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Who would design a parallelopiped roof?
wim commented on 01.13.07
art sings to maud the theme from "the pink panther", so now we all do when we have to sit baby
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Wim? Is your kettle on too?
wim commented on 01.13.07
we did, we had no choice, we did not find a contractor in due time; it is a complex roof because nothing is rectangular (the surface is a parallellopiped) but lucky for us it is rather small, and the hight is something you get used to
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Shame, that. Maybe you could hum instead. That's neuriën, in Dutch.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
I've just put the kettle on, It wasn't far.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
No, I can't sing.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Tea! what a good idea. I think I'll make one. I won't have to leave, the kettle's just here.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Do you sing to him? That always worked with ours.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
But I would love a cup of tea.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
I had to get my youngest back to sleep. He's not well.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Wim, Respec! You built the roof yourself? That's not easy. And the windy weather will have put it to the test, the last couple of days.
wim commented on 01.13.07
probably for a cup of tea
wim commented on 01.13.07
Hmm?? It depends on his imagination
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Where did you go anyway?
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Dank U very much.
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
Hmm.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
terribly
wim commented on 01.13.07
SS, I miss you more than you imagine
wim commented on 01.13.07
it will be ok, after all, he designed the place, we planned and discussed every part of the construction, we made the roof ourselves and gave a lot of help the last weeks to every incoming craftsman, and 41m² is really small for a family with a kid trying to learn how to walk and another one on its way
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
In case you hadn't noticed, I had to disappear, but I'm back now. Did you miss me?
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
I find it really strange sleeping in a new space. I'd rather sleep on a street matt
wim commented on 01.13.07
it has to do with my perception of your use of language, my guess now is you are as SS is
wim commented on 01.13.07
He is, if all is as planned he sleeps in the new (unfinished) house tomorrow. In his actual studio (which we sold during the construction of the new office)there is not much left to live in
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Or maybe we're just playing hard to guess
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Maybe we're non-gender-specific.
wim commented on 01.13.07
I prefer "Nederlands" not "Hollands", hence I don't like the "hardstikke", too Dutch to me. It would be unfair to SS. BTW SE, I think I made the same mistake on your gender as I did at first on SS's
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
This is a good picture. Een rustig plekje om bij te praten. Art is moving?
wim commented on 01.13.07
ok, fair enough, give me the right picture
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
My Dutch? It's still here. But so few people understand it. Mijn Nederlands gaat hartstikke lekker hoor. Wil je even in het Hollands doorgaan?
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
I'm going to have to leave you all if this goes on. Please answer on the right picture.
wim commented on 01.13.07
sleepeasy, what happened to your Dutch?
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
C'est un jeu de mot trez obscure.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
Que?
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
La belle gique.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
And so good of you to join us Wim; how's life in La Belgique these days?
wim commented on 01.13.07
hi SS and sleepeasy, samen op de matrassen?
Smart Set commented on 01.13.07
I think it's some weird kind of floral print.
Sleepeasy commented on 01.13.07
But what's that blue? I can't tell if it's a floral print, or some weird kind of staining.
